Manuscript journal of a tour through France and Switzerland to Italy and back to London. Daily entries covering the first part of the journey mention sights seen, including the glaciers at Chamonix and "several small avalanches;" the Ambrosian Library and the Cathedral of Milan; and cathedrals and art collections throughout northern Italy. The author frequently comments on individual works of art and is a particular admirer of Corregio. There are few entries after his arrival at Rome in September of 1822, perhaps because he had visited Italy previously, and most of the remainder of the journal consists of notes on arrivals and departures.
